The Blake Neighborhood is widely noted for its scenic beauty, and many legendary and historic associations cluster around the old homesteads. Of special interest is the view one gets from the Walter David Blake place. A lonely grave, that of Ichabod Ricker (1772–1836), is in itself a landmark and is situated on the hillside below Blake’s home.

Highlands of Brownfield

To obtain the most impressive views of mountains, meadows, lakes and streams we have to go to the homes situated in the “Highlands of Brownfield.” Merrill’s Corner and the Blake Neighborhood offer the most delightful panoramas. All along the old County Road as well as on the branch roads are homes that have become sacred — at least to the sentimental soul, by historic or other associations.

The Clayton Eaton place at the “Corners” commands an excellent prospect, so does the George Blake place— later the Bert Bartlett place, still later the Dr. Pearson place, now owned by Brig. Gen. Alden K. Sibley. The Arthur Blake place, on a branch road off the old County Road, presents a fine view of the mountains; and from the Walter Blake place at the top of the hill a view of intense interest meets the eye!

Mildred Halita Blake Coleman, Blake Neighborhood, Brownfield, 1975.
